Exact Duplicates
Open Media Sentry > Duplicates after completing the baseline. Exact groups use SHA-256 file hashes. Matching bytes do not mean every attachment is interchangeable: different pages can reference different attachment IDs or URLs.
Open a group and compare the preview, usage, protection, and role of each member. Keep the designated keeper and any referenced or protected copies. The UI exposes Quarantine Redundant Copies and group-level selections only where the cleanup rules allow them and Pro access is available. Review the selected group count and copy count before acting.
This workflow does not rewrite content to point to a keeper, merge attachment records, or replace referenced images. A copy that is in use is not made disposable merely by finding a matching hash.
Similar Images
Similar Images uses an average perceptual hash when GD decoding is available. These groups can include visually different crops, quality levels, or variants. Compare each image and its usage yourself. Similar Images is manual review only and is not an automatic-safe or bulk-cleanup category. A missing similarity result does not prove images are visually unique.
Review Without Moving Files
Open an asset detail for a thumbnail, size, dimensions, scan evidence, Used By, duplicate membership, and cleanup history. These are free inspection views; they do not alter the file. If a preview is missing, inspect the path and System's missing-file report before making a decision.
The CLI also provides a free cleanup dry-run report, but it reports candidates already in the internal approved-for-dry-run state. A zero count can mean there are no prior approvals, even when Unused Media contains results. The current UI does not provide a separate Approve-for-Preview stage: selecting Quarantine creates and begins a real action batch. Do not click it simply to generate a dry-run report.
Quarantine moves files within the server's storage; it does not itself reclaim the reported bytes. Storage figures are estimates for review, not guaranteed disk savings or a complete accounting of generated sizes and backups.
