Restore and Recovery

Applies to core 0.1.2. Restore is free and does not require Pro cleanup entitlement.

Restore a Quarantined Image

  1. Open Media Sentry > Quarantine and locate the image using its asset information and original path.
  2. Use Restore, or select several items and choose Restore Selected Quarantined. Restore All Quarantined deliberately includes all quarantined items in the available scope.
  3. Review the restore batch result, including failures and remaining items. Background workers continue queued work when WordPress scheduled events run.
  4. Verify the original URL and the pages that use the image. Refresh relevant site/CDN caches if they still show stale results, then refresh Media Sentry's inventory and usage evidence.

Restore checks the stored hash and moves the file back to its original path. It refuses to overwrite a file already there. Restore clears quarantine metadata and returns the review item to Needs Review. If the restored image should always remain, review it and apply Protect as appropriate.

A Restore Failed

If the original destination already exists, preserve both versions and ask the site operator to compare them. Do not delete the existing file merely to make a retry succeed. If the quarantined file is missing or its hash differs, inspect the quarantine directory and backup history; do not alter the log or bypass hash validation. Check directory permissions when movement fails.

An interrupted file operation can require manual reconciliation of the physical file, attachment state, and log. Keep a copy of the database and both relevant directories before an administrator investigates. Export the diagnostic information described in Troubleshooting.

Recovery After Deletion or Loss

Permanent deletion cannot be reversed with Restore. Recover the appropriate files and attachment/database records from a consistent external backup. For a live store, coordinate database recovery carefully so later orders and content are not overwritten by an old full-database restore.

If Pro is disabled or maintenance has expired, the free core still supplies restore. Keep the database logs and quarantine directory intact; reinstalling a plugin cannot reconstruct lost quarantined files. See Backups and Updates.
