WooCommerce product images can be connected through featured images, galleries, variations, metadata, theme layouts, feeds, and external product tooling. Removing the wrong file can break more than one product view.
Audit product media first
- Confirm featured-image coverage.
- Inspect gallery and variation-image references.
- Review missing files and broken attachment records.
- Separate exact duplicates from alternate product mockups.
- Flag oversized source images for deliberate optimization.
Test the storefront
After any quarantine action, check affected products on desktop and mobile, switch variations, open galleries, and complete a non-payment cart test. Keep print-on-demand imports and feed generation in scope.
