Build a baseline

Begin on a staging copy with a current database and uploads backup. In WordPress, open Media Sentry, then Setup Baseline. Run the displayed steps in order and review their completion state before moving on. Inventory, reference, duplicate, and classification results supply the review screens.

Reports reflect saved scan results. Refresh the relevant scans after media or products change. A report with no results is not evidence of a clean library if setup has not completed.

Review findings

Open Unused Media and inspect each candidate’s reference evidence. Check custom or external uses before deciding. Use Protect for media you need to retain, or Ignore to record a review decision. Reset Decision is available when you need to reconsider.

Use Duplicates to inspect exact-hash groups separately from similar images. Exact-duplicate quarantine is limited to eligible unused redundant copies; a retained copy stays out of that selection. Similar images require manual review.

Quarantine and recovery

Pro provides quarantine for reviewed, eligible candidates. Start with a small selection on staging, then inspect the affected pages and products. The Quarantine screen shows held assets and their history. Restore is available in the free core, including when Pro is inactive or absent.

Permanent deletion is separate from quarantine. It requires the DELETE confirmation and eligibility checks, including retention, file integrity, references, and protection. The default retention period is 30 days; reaching it never deletes an item automatically. Keep backups because permanent deletion cannot be undone through Restore.

Check product health

For WooCommerce stores, open Product Health to review featured, gallery, and variation image coverage, broken references, duplicate-heavy product media, and oversized-image warnings. Treat these as review prompts and check the affected product before changing its media.

Updates and support

Media Sentry Pro is an annual subscription: $39/year for one production site or $99/year for five production sites, renewing automatically unless canceled. Paid cleanup and automatic Pro update eligibility require a current subscription and validated site license. Restore remains available in the free core.
